One of the things I love most about what I do is the variety. Every shoot is different & every client is different. Even for something as simple as ‘corporate headshot photography’, there are so many variables that no job is the same as another.

This shoot is a great example of a truly unique headshot brief.

Background

Duetto, the world’s #1 revenue management system, was going through a rebrand to differentiate it from its competitors. They wanted to get rid of stock imagery & use images of real ‘Duettos’. In the words of Global Marketing Director Hannah, “our people are our brand”.

I was commissioned to shoot 140 team members during a two-day conference in Barcelona. They wanted headshots with a difference! Headshots with some personality that captured the real people that made the brand market leaders.

One of Duetto’s brand values is “come as you are”. I was asked to capture this. Team members “as they were”. Duetto is a young, vibrant brand & they wanted people’s characters to shine through in the photos.

Headshot Photography: The Shoot

We hired photographic equipment in Barcelona & I set up a pop-up studio in a small room adjacent to where the staff conference was taking place.

This was my studio set-up. And yes, I did take a few selfies as I was setting up!

Over two days, people dropped into the ‘studio’ to be photographed. Each person had about ten minutes in front of the camera. This was just enough time for us to build a little bit of a rapport, for them to relax & for me to take a selection of images.

Duetto is an international brand & had flown its team in from around the world for the annual conference. It was their first in-person meet-up post-pandemic & there was real excitement in the air. People WANTED to be photographed! At times my studio felt like a social hub as friends & colleagues brought their coffee along & caught up with each other!

People didn’t need much encouragement to pose for the camera & real & genuine personas shone through easily. Coincidentally, it was February 14th, Valentine’s Day. For any reluctant poser, I asked them to flirt with the camera & that got the smiles needed!

To get consistency & versatility, I shot everyone on a white background. For the number of people being photographed, the location & the timeframe, it was logistically the simplest option.

As part of its re-brand, Duetto introduced a dynamic colour palette to differentiate it from its competitors. To integrate the photos into the new branding, I changed the background of the images in post-production to their new colours.

The Photos

And here are the results!

I shot everyone against a white background. This gives Duetto flexibility with the images.

I changed the background colour to Duetto’s new brand colours in post-production.

And this is how Duetto used the photos:

The Finale

I am delighted with the photos. As is the client. I will leave the final few words to them;

“Ally is an exceptional brand photographer. We use her work across our brand portfolio as she truly captured the heart of our business through her shots.”

Hannah, Global Marketing Director, Duetto

Did you know it’s easy to change the background on a headshot when it is taken against a white backdrop?

It doesn’t need to be a solid colour background either… Just for fun, we could have made it a more ‘Barcelona’ background!
